The river front and the west end of the castle are seen to the north from the north bank of the Tyne near Bywell’s two churches. The reach flowing north is seen on the right; today the bank is wooded, obscuring this view. There is a slight continuation of the trees on the left on folio 88 recto opposite (D12437), and a similar sketch from a little to the east on folio 88 verso (D12438).
This is one of a sequence of studies of Bywell between folio 81 verso (D12424) and folio 88 verso; for the history of the castle and bridge, see the entry for folio 81 verso.
