This sketch forms the left-hand side of a distant view of St Peter’s from the north-west which continues on the opposite sheet of the double-page spread, see folio 9 (D16173). The building partially hidden amongst the trees at the top is currently unidentified but it may represent a villa on the slopes of Monte Mario, or within the area of pine wood at the foot of the hill known as the Pineta Sacchetti.
