Like many other ancient monuments in the Roman Forum, Turner made a detailed study of the Arch of Constantine, a triumphal arch which stands at the eastern end of the Forum, near to the Colosseum. This page contains sketches relating to the western end of the structure. The sketch in the top left-hand corner of a battle scene is the attic panel whilst in the top right-hand corner are two rows depicting the frieze on the side of the arch.
At the bottom of the page is an outline sketch of the Arch of Constantine from the north in relation to its surroundings, including part of the adjacent western end of the Colosseum. In the bottom left-hand corner is part of another sketch of the Colosseum, continued from the opposite sheet of the double-page spread, see folio 22 verso (D16196). For other sketches of the Arch of Constantine see folio 18 (D16190).
