A slight sketch, made with the page turned vertically, and apparently related to the studies inside back cover (D40736). Compare the building in the oval with studies on folio 21 verso (D00104) and with the view of Malmesbury parish church seen through arches of the Abbey, folio 22 recto (D00105). The oval motif may be an idea for a title or wrapper vignette for the projected ‘12 Views on the River Avon’; see folio 20 verso (D00102), inside back cover (D40736) and the introduction to the sketchbook.
Technical notes:
The missing bottom right corner has been made up.
