‘The Deney’ refers to Denny Island, in the Severn estuary opposite the mouth of the Avon. It is visible between the trees to the left of the view on the recto (D00101). For the ‘12 Views on the River Avon’ see introductory comments on this sketchbook. The colour trials are perhaps connected with the drawing on folio 22 recto (D00105).
