The principal image is of a small single-masted boat canted on its side, presumably on a beach; near it are two studies of a rowing-boat, one from above, the other from the port side. Beyond, a three-master is seen in the distance with a large group of ships behind it.

Blank; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram; inscribed in a later hand ‘7’.
