The work is mounted with the album page turned vertically. It is after a drawing by John Robert Cozens (1752–1797), which he titled ‘The Convent of ––– at Vietri’ and dated ‘Sept. 24. 1782’; see Beckford Sketchbook III, p.13 (Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, D1975.6.13),1 and Beaumont tracing no.43 (after Cozens; Yale Center for British Art, New Haven).
