The pencil work is by Girtin. This was presumably copied from a sketch or watercolour by John Robert Cozens (1752–1797).

Blank; inscribed by Thomas Girtin in pencil ‘Ruins of Augustus Palace on the | Palatine Hill’, ‘mountains near Tivoli’, ‘[?M M Scinthio]’, ‘Walls of Rome’, ‘Baths of Titus’, ‘Coliseo | light thro’, ‘a convent’; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
The inscriptions correspond with the subjects shown in the drawing, behind which they are written. Compare 19.33 (D36536; TB CCCLXXV 15).
