The pencil work is by Girtin. This was copied from a sketch by John Robert Cozens (1752–1797) in Beckford Sketchbook IV, p.6, inscribed ‘In the Road on the Top of Pausilippo – Octr 18 [1782] | Castle of St. Elmo’ with notes (Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, D1975.7.6).1
