This is the upper half of a double-page spread, continued on folio 74 (D11001), opposite, recording the waterside of the River Nidd at Knaresborough, looking west towards the castle. Turner sketched the same material but from a slightly higher viewpoint and further right across folios 63 verso–64 of this sketchbook (D10985–D10986). The sketchbook also contains a scattering of other studies of Knaresborough, mostly views from the south, folios 49, 56 verso, 57 and 104 verso (D10957, D10972, D10973, D11038).
