These ambiguous colour studies, possibly a landscape with gabled buildings on the left and perhaps silhouetted sailing boats or tree trunks on the right, with what appears to be a separate sunset study below, are not mentioned in Finberg’s 1909 Turner Bequest catalogue.1
An unrelated view in the grounds of Blenheim Palace is on the recto (Tate D25489; Turner Bequest CCLXIII 366).
