The sketch at the top of the page is identifiable as the harbour at Dieppe because of the outline of the tower and cupola of the Church of St Jacques in the distance to the left.1 The sketch beneath of two large sailing vessels, or one vessel from the front and side, may have been made during Turner’s journey from Brighton and Dieppe.
