There are three sketches on this page of a river with tree-lined banks. A thumbnail composition of a similar looking landscape on folio 41 (Tate D18589; Turner Bequest CCXI 41) is labelled ‘Twickenham’.
The top sketch depicts a boat with two figures. Turner has noted, rather than drawing, ‘cows’ at the left ‘w[ith] Boys on the Bank’. The second sketch depicts an angler on the riverbank at the bottom right foreground with trees reflected in the water. Beneath the sketch are the notes: ‘Boat with small | Sale white’ at the left, and ‘Boat p[...] for | Fishing’. Finally at the bottom of the page is another sketch of the riverbanks which continues on the opposite sketchbook page: folio 40 (Tate D18587; Turner Bequest CCXI 40).
