Drawn from above the River Seine at Saint-Cloud is a view south along the river with its two bridges. This sketch has been associated with the artist’s gouache and watercolour of Bridges of St-Cloud and Sèvre, c.1833 (Tate D24689; Turner Bequest CCLIX 123), designed for Turner’s Annual Tour, 1835 (Tate T05618), although this sketch focuses on the Pont de Sèvre rather than that of St-Cloud.1
For Turner’s other sketches at Saint-Cloud in this sketchbook see folio 3 verso (Tate D24505; Turner Bequest CCLVIII 3a).
