The drawing across the left half of this page continues a sketch from folio 30 (Tate D24557; Turner Bequest CCLVIII 30) of Rouen from St Catherine’s Hill, indicating that these two pages were once opposite each other in the sketchbook before John Ruskin disassembled it to exhibit some of the pages, and the book was subsequently reassembled in the wrong order. The building on this part of the page is the tower of St Ouen.1
Ian Warrell describes the sketch drawn at the right side of the page with the sketchbook turned to the left as a hillside with a tower, suggesting it is near Rouen.2 For a list of Turner’s sketches of Rouen in this book, see folio 1 (Tate D24500; Turner Bequest CCLVIII 1).
