This is the quickest and most immediate of several drawings Turner made in this sketchbook looking westwards, from the path leading up to the Montenvers, towards Mont Blanc on the left and the valley of the River Arve and Chamonix below on the right. Others from the sketchbook, coloured, are D04607 and D04608; Turner Bequest LXXV 15, 18.
