Turner’s view here is taken from near Farnley Hall, looking towards Otley Bridge in the distance to the left, with Newall Hall (demolished 1928) in the centre middle distance. Turner recorded a similar view in a watercolour of The Carriage Drive, Farnley Hall, painted c.1818 for Walter Fawkes of Farnley (private collection).1 The same building is included there, seen from a greater distance.
