Oakfordbridge, a wooden bridge on stone piers a little east of Oakford and a few miles upriver on the Exe from Tiverton (see the contemporary Devon Rivers, No.2 sketchbook; Tate D09768, D09769; Turner Bequest CXXXIII 73a, 74), is shown in an 1819 aquatint after H. Haseler and an 1827 etching by F.C. Lewis (Westcountry Studies Library, Exeter), where it appears similar to the structure sketched here. Tiverton was possibly the starting and end point of Turner’s 1814 tour (see the overall Introduction).
