Finberg confidently described view of rolling hills as ‘River Tamar, near Wier [sic] Head’,1 south of Gunnislake; see also the recto (D09645). It is difficult to make out a river as such, and the only specific topographical clue appears to be a building in the middle distance towards the right. This book contains numerous sketches along the meandering Tamar among hills several miles up- and down-river of Weir Head, but the present scene, which may well be in the vicinity, remains to be positively identified. For other views along the Tamar Valley, see under folio 114 verso (D09606).
