Holy Trinity Church is seen on the hill above Buckfastleigh, looking north-west from the River Dart at Austin’s Bridge; the spire is now obscured by trees. There is a smaller sketch of the same view on folio 62 verso opposite (D09749).
There are other sketches of the neighbourhood on folios 61 verso, 63 verso and 64 recto (D09747, D09751, D09752), and more detailed studies of Buckfastleigh and nearby Buckfast Abbey in the contemporary Devonshire Rivers, No.3, and Wharfedale sketchbook; see under Tate D09844 (Turner Bequest CXXXIV 48).
