As Finberg noted, this is a brief extension from another drawing – in fact, from the trees in the view of Bolton Abbey on folio 14 recto opposite (D09875; Turner Bequest CXXXIV 74), which had been removed from the sketchbook for exhibition and was thus not readily identifiable at that time. For other views of the abbey see under folio 7 recto (D09874; Turner Bequest CXXXIV 73).
