With the page turned horizontally, this view among wooded hills currently remains unidentified, but may show the River Yealm, south-east of Plymouth. A nearby sketch (folio 47 recto; D09268) is annotated with the name of the river, while folio 53 recto (D09275) and subsequent pages show the Wembury area, near the mouth of the river. The structure in the foreground may be that shown on the right of folio 50 recto (D09272), while the building in the middle distance appears to be the same. The subjects as far as folio 127 recto (D09358) are all identified or presumed sites within a few miles in and around Plymouth, suggesting a series of fairly short excursions.
