With the page turned horizontally, Turner’s viewpoint is in the Oreston area, looking down on the Hooe Lake, an inlet from the Cattewater, and west towards the tower at Mount Batten at the centre, with Mount Edgcumbe beyond across Plymouth Sound, and the Citadel on the skyline towards the right. The subjects as far as folio 127 recto (D09358) are all identified or presumed sites within a few miles in and around Plymouth, suggesting a series of fairly short excursions.
Technical notes:
There is a small hole through the sheet at the bottom right, surrounded by staining.
