Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, at the bottom left is a continuation of woods from the distant view of the Chinese Fishing Temple across Virginia Water on folio 84 recto opposite (D22134; Turner Bequest CCXXXVIII 82). The main view, across the centre of the page, appears to be a development on a larger scale from this continuation; each has a ‘w’ (for water) in a corresponding position. The vertical feature at the right appears to be the Clockcase folly (since obscured by trees), beyond the eastern end of the lake and the London road.
For other views around Virginia Water, see under folio 73 verso (D22113; Turner Bequest CCXXXVIII 71a).
