As set out in the Introduction, this is one of a sequence running through the middle of this sketchbook showing a substantial rural weir with a fence-like wooden superstructure, populated by numerous adults and children engaged in or watching fishing. The location is unidentified. Here, a man in a dark coat and tall hat leans on his fishing rod, apparently engaged with another person seated to the left. The trees and weir continue across folio 19 recto opposite (D27759). The elegant man in the hat is presumably the one shown again on folios 19 verso and 20 verso (D27760, D27762).
