The drawing was made with the page turned horizontally. A finished watercolour of the subject (usually known as The Crypt, Kirkstall, or Kirkstall Refectory) is currently untraced.1 Turner made an exceptionally large number of drawings at Kirkstall; see under folio 11 recto (D00916; Turner Bequest XXXIV 10a).
