The subject is drawn with the page turned horizontally. This is one of seven studies of Harewood Castle in this book; see under folio 71 recto (D00976; Turner Bequest XXXIV 67). A large finished watercolour based on this drawing1 was commissioned by one of the Lascelles family (see list inside front cover, D41412); it is still at Harewood. As David Hill notes,2 it was one of a pair; the other view of Harewood Castle was based on the drawing on folio 71 recto (D00976; Turner Bequest XXXIV 67).
