The subject is drawn with the page turned horizontally. A small finished watercolour based on this drawing, made for Benjamin Howlett’s Select Views in the County of Lincoln (1801; Tate impression: T05918), is at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Museum, Providence, Rhode Island.1 Turner had been asked to consider making other views for Howlett, but these were not realised, although he did make careful pencil drawings for them; see the studies of Louth and Boston, in this book, between folios 84 recto and 87 recto (D00990–D00993; Turner Bequest XXXIV 80–82).
