Here Turner has made three small separate sketches of a group of houses at the upper register; a view of the vale of the Hoëgne from the Liège-Spa road with the castle of Franchimont in the distance; and what appears to be a pair of reclining figures at the bottom register. The artist has annotated the central landscape drawing which runs across the gutter to the folio opposite (Tate D28104; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVII 33) with inscriptions which read ‘Road’, ‘Vines’, ‘Corn’, and ‘Red’.
