Here Turner has used the upper third of the sheet to take a simple sketch of a village nestled at the base of valley cliffs. He has inscribed the word ‘Rock’ within the most prominent of these precipices. The sketch briefly continues onto the folio opposite (Tate D28106; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVII 34).
