Here Turner has drawn a roadside scene at the outskirts of Spa with the profile of the Ardennes mountain range in view. A few houses are roughly jotted in and a figure, thought to be a mother and baby, can be seen in the foreground at the left. Orientated inversely to this scene is a group of seated figures near to the periphery of the page. The annotations ‘Red’, ‘1 Gre’, ‘W’, ‘B[...]’, probably records of colour in clothing, have been inscribed around the group.
