While omitting the south bank of the River Thames on the left, this is a similar view to that on folios 17 verso–18 recto (D17867, D17868), showing the view north-west across the River Thames to Old London Bridge, with the north bank continued on folio 19 recto opposite (D17870). The numbers above sections of the bridge presumably refer to some aspect of its stonework. At the top left is a detail of the adjacent tower of St Olave’s Church (now gone).
More than half the drawings in this sketchbook show the River Thames around Old London Bridge, and are likely to date from 1824; see the Introduction.
