Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation and continued on folio 50 recto opposite (D01543; Turner Bequest XL 48), this is one of the sequence of rapid sketches of uncertain topographical subjects made by Turner in this sketchbook, probably in the Vale of Usk and along the Taff: see folios 34 verso–35 recto, 35 verso–36 recto, 47 recto and 47 verso–48 recto (D01518–D01521, D01538–D01540; Turner Bequest XL 32a–33, 33a–34, 45, 45a–46).
