Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this composition is continued on folio 90 recto opposite (D01614; Turner Bequest XL 88). Like that on folios 87 verso–88 recto (D01609–D01610; Turner Bequest XL 85a–86), this is apparently a drawing made with a ‘portrait’ of Lacock Abbey in mind, perhaps on commission from Davenport Talbot.
Turner has made studies of various architectural details above the main drawing; compare folios 85 verso, 87 recto, 91 verso and 92 verso (D01605, D01608, D01617, D01619; Turner Bequest XL 83a, 85, 89a, 90a).
