These slight and swiftly rendered views show a distant townscape with parts of the Gorze aqueduct in the foreground (see Tate D19699–D19704, D19707; Turner Bequest CCXVI 75a–78, 79a). Both Finberg and Cecilia Powell propose that these may be distant prospects of Metz.
