In this cursory sketch, Turner captures a moment of daily life and labour on the quayside at Bonn. Two figures with their backs facing away from the artist can be seen either standing in conversation or walking down the riverfront, as another figure makes their way down the street at bottom left. This sketch was almost certainly taken in the same sitting as that on the opposite folio Tate D19841; Turner Bequest CCXVI 145a, which depicts a moored boat with cargo and crew.
