Rendered with loose and free line, this sky study may have been taken as Turner journeyed from Bruges to Ostend. The artist has made note of the ‘Blue’ and ‘Yellow’ coloured ‘Light’. A similar sketch is shown on Tate D19894; Turner Bequest CCXVI 171 a.
