This is a view of the quayside at Liège, Belgium, on the banks of the River Meuse. Turner visited the city at the beginning and towards the end of his tour on 13 August and 4 September. In the foreground figures assemble at the edge of the quay wall next to moored boats loaded with cargo. Beyond is the Pont des Arches and the spire of the Cathedral of Saint-Paul at right.
