Inverted in relation to the sketchbook as foliated, this drawing of Castle Cornet, Guernsey is accompanied by at least two further sketches. The medieval fortress is shown on its island out in the harbour of St Peter Port, as viewed from the south. The sloping coastal land-mass to the right-hand side of the page must therefore depict a different location. For the main entry on Castle Cornet, see folio 29 verso (D23575; Turner Bequest CCLII 29a).
The cluster of squares and straight lines to the bottom left-hand corner of the page form part of a drawing of a jetty and lighthouse which continues on folio 48 recto opposite (D23609; Turner Bequest CCLII 48).
