J.M.W. Turner: Sketchbooks, Drawings and Watercolours

With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner worked a sketch of figures on a small vessel onto the lower half of this page as well as the statuary and foliage of a formal garden. Although the drawing is too cursory to identify a definitive location for the scene, this part of the volume is dominated by drawings of the gardens and palace at Versailles, located some twelve miles south-west of central Paris.
