The subject is continued on folio 37 recto opposite (D02983). Luss is a village on the western shore of Loch Lomond; it is likely that Turner spent a night there. Ben Lomond (974 metres) overlooks the loch from its northern end. Another view is on folios 37 verso–38 recto (D02984, D41242); two watercolour views of the mountain are on folios 38 verso (D41243) and 39 recto (D41244; Turner Bequest LVI 38a).
