The subject is continued on folio 123 recto opposite (D03150; Turner Bequest LVI 121). It is one of a series of studies on the banks of the river Garry or Tilt at Blair Atholl; see under folio 118 verso (D03141; Turner Bequest LVI 116a).
The subject here is perhaps a scene on the River Garry rather than the Tilt: the enclosed scenery of the river bed opens up to reveal a hill which Finberg suggested may be the Hill of Tulach (Tulloch).1
