Here Turner depicts scenes on the coast, possibly near Lowestoft, Suffolk. The artist records boats moored on the beach and a small hut for storing fishing equipment on the sands. A vessel with its sails raised can be seen at left; ‘N3’ has been inscribed on the sail. The lowermost view, picturing a stretch of coastline with beach and cliffs, extends onto the folio opposite (Tate D18242; Turner Bequest CCIX 44). For similar views see Tate D18239–D18240, D18243–D18245; Turner Bequest CCIX 42a–43, 44a– 45a).
