Here Turner depicts Brighton from a vantage point on the beach, close to the Albion Hotel, the Chain Pier Toll House and waterwheel. The Chain Pier can be seen beyond, in the middle distance. In the foreground Turner records moored ‘Red [?Boats]’ and figures on the sands.
