This group of elegant women and a little girl in miniature versions of their bonnets and colourful capes appear beset by a strong wing, probably on a beach or promenade (see the Introduction for other examples of such recreational scenes); compare the long feather decorating a bonnet in Tate D24797 (Turner Bequest CCLIX 232).
