With the page turned vertically, there are several quick studies of what seem to be billowing clouds over the level horizon of the sea, likely the Channel. One or two of the swirling marks towards the top may be brief annotations. See the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal and shipping views and inscribed studies of clouds and the sun over the sea scattered through it.
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter and at the edge, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
