With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with loose sketches of the skyline of a town. Tate curator Ian Warrell has suggested that the drawings may have been taken at Nantes.1 The pages of this volume feature many depictions of this Brittany city, a list of which is included in the sketchbook introduction for comparison.
