With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with drawings of the settlement at Parnay in the Loire Valley. Both sketches have been identified as westerly vistas looking downstream towards the city of Saumur.1 Several pages in this volume feature the buildings of Parnay; a list of these drawings is included in the sketchbook introduction.
