Turner filled much of this page with studies of the ruined medieval fortress at Roche-Corbon just outside Tours, identifiable by a thin, tower-like remnant known as the ‘Lanterne’.1 As outlined in the sketchbook introduction, Tours and its environs feature heavily in these pages.
