With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner found high ground to the west of Paris and filled this page with views of the Seine as it flows out of the city. On the right-hand edge of the page is featured the dome of Les Invalides. As Tate curator Ian Warrell has observed, windmills can be glimpsed spinning atop Montmartre in the upper left-hand quadrant of the page.1
